5 Tips for Great Event Photos

  1. Clean your lens first. A quick swipe with your shirt removes the smudges that make every phone photo look hazy.

  2. Face the light. Position your subject so the light source (window, stage lighting) is in front of them, not behind. Backlit photos turn faces into shadows.

  3. Get close. Step in before you shoot. Cropping later loses quality, but walking three feet closer doesn't.

  4. Capture the candid moments, not just posed ones. Conversations, laughter, and hands-in-the-air excitement tell the story better than everyone smiling at the camera.

  5. Steady your shot. Tuck your elbows in or brace against a table. A half-second of stillness is the difference between sharp and blurry.
